Who we are

The Victorian Fire and Rescue Squad (VFRS) Inc. is a not-for-profit volunteer organisation that provides fire & Rescue response capability to motor sport competitors, support crews and officials.

Risks of motorsport to competitors are widely publicised and under race conditions the potential for roll-overs, collisions at high speed, pit lane fires, high velocity impact with speed traps and barriers are very much a reality. When these instances happen, members of the Victorian Fire & rescue Squad are responded.

Our volunteer members are a dedicated core of CAMS accredited and licenced Fire/Rescue officials who specialise in the provision of Fire and Rescue response at motorsport events.

We attend a range of diverse events from club level sprint days, State and National circuit race meetings, Supercars, The Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, World Super bikes and the MOTOGP.

Our members are trained in fire suppression and rescue techniques and the methods required to extricate drivers from disabled vehicles. VFRS is focused on teamwork and we work closely with medical crews and other officials to ensure the best outcome possible is achieved.

Where Did We Come From

VFRS was established in the early 1970’s by Women For Wheels. After a tragic crash that claimed the life of a driver in the late 1960’s, it was their vision to ensure a high level of fire protection could be provided for all drivers, officials and race team members regardless of the category or the level of their competition.
